A few practical concepts make transfer estimates much easier to understand.
Internet and network links are normally advertised in bits per second, while file sizes are usually shown in bytes. Because 1 byte = 8 bits, a 1 Gbps link has a theoretical maximum file-transfer rate of 125 MB/s.
